Did you know that 80% of security breaches involve compromised passwords?*

Utilising the use of 2-Factor Authorisation (2FA) is a huge step you can take to keep your network and devices secure and to mitigate the risk of hacking-related breaches and data loss.

Here at OAS we use DUO - a Cisco Security product that is user-friendly and scalable to keep your business ahead of ever-changing security threats. Duo is engineered to provide a simple, streamlined login experience for every user and application, and as a cloud-based solution, it integrates easily with your existing technology.

What exactly is 2FA?

Two-factor authentication means that whatever application or service you’re logging in to is double-checking that the request is really coming from you by confirming the login with you through a separate avenue.

This extra step will make it much more difficult for hackers to break into your systems and data. Even if they manage to get hold of a password, getting past 2FA is very tricky if they don’t have access to the device or account that is used for the authorisation.

Why 2FA is an Essential Part of Web Security

2FA is essential to web security because it immediately neutralises the risks associated with a password that might be hacked or guessed. Without approval at the second factor, a password alone is useless.

How Does 2FA Work

Different 2FA methods use varying processes, but they all rely on the same underlying workflow.

Typically, a 2FA transaction happens like this:

- The user logs in to the website or service with their username and password.

- The password is validated by an authentication server, and if correct, the user becomes eligible for the second factor.

- The authentication server sends a unique code to the user’s second-factor device.

- The user confirms their identity by approving the additional authentication from their second-factor device.

As more and more usernames and passwords are up for sale on the dark web, 2FA is an absolute must for business and personal accounts alike.
